According to laboratory assessments conducted thus far, the water quality of the Black Sea remains entirely within statutory norms along the entire perimeter of the Georgian coastline, the National Environmental Agency has announced.

The agency further noted that it is actively continuing its efforts to upgrade and refine its environmental monitoring systems.

“The National Environmental Agency conducts continuous monthly monitoring of Black Sea water quality across 12 designated locations.

Samples collected from the Black Sea are dispatched for analysis to the National Environmental Agency’s accredited Air, Water and Soil Analysis Laboratory. This facility is equipped with high-precision instruments and fully complies with modern international standards.

The assessments determine hydrobiological and chemical parameters, including concentrations of 13 heavy metals, total petroleum hydrocarbons, 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and various other physicochemical properties.

Laboratory testing carried out by the agency so far shows that Black Sea water quality right along the Georgian coast is well within safe limits. Notably, in line with the European Union’s Marine Strategy Framework Directive, the National Environmental Agency is actively working to enhance its monitoring frameworks. The findings of these laboratory analyses are routinely made available to the public on the agency’s official website,” the National Environmental Agency statement read.
