“Ambassadors who cause harm, support radicals and act against the state should be expelled, I think,” said Irakli Zarkua, Chairman of Parliament’s Diaspora Committee.

Zarkua specifically targeted the British and German ambassadors, claiming they have become “radicalised” and abandoned diplomatic norms.

“Great Britain’s interests are understandable – they still have a colonial attitude toward small states,” Zarkua said, claiming Western powers cannot accept that the era when “ambassadors served as governors” has ended.

He accused the UK ambassador of financing pre-election monitoring by groups he described as “radicals,” including people who “threaten us with overthrow” at rallies.

“Would they draw objective conclusions? This is what the British ambassador was funding,” Zarkua said.

The MP also criticised German Ambassador Peter Fischer, claiming he has “crossed every line of diplomatic obligation and responsibility” and become “an ordinary radical.”

“Khoshtaria ended the hunger strike, and hopefully Gedevan Popkhadze will too. But should they be replaced by German Ambassador Fischer? He appears overly fixated, disregarding diplomatic obligations and responsibilities, and has become a typical radical,” Zarkua stated.

The MP went on to say that given these circumstances, “I am considering raising the issue of expelling this ambassador, as he seems more intent on fostering confrontation than improving relations between Georgia and Germany.”

“The Georgian people clearly said they don’t want war, chose peace, and defended national values,” he declared, adding that “ambassadors who cause harm, support radicals, and act against the state should be expelled.”
