MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili: Unlike radicals, we are government that shapes Georgia’s present and future

“We are committed to lasting peace in our region, because our country cannot welcome any prolonged escalation of conflict,” stated MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.

Sharmanashvili emphasised that every word spoken by the Georgian government carries significance, which can influence Georgia’s present and future.

“Unlike radicals, we are the government. Every word we utter carries weight, and it can shape Georgia’s future. President Trump mentioned that the Iranian side has contacted him and expressed willingness to negotiate. We remain hopeful that a durable peace will be established in the region and that diplomatic channels will be utilised. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze recently spoke with the President of the United Arab Emirates and conveyed our solidarity; their warm exchange was notable.
The fact that he took the time to engage with the Georgian government amidst such challenging circumstances already indicates that our position carries some weight with them. We desire lasting peace in our region because any form of prolonged conflict is unwelcome for our country,” Sharmanashvili stated.

Regarding Mikheil Saakashvili’s recent remarks, based on his reckless actions, he has already heard such ‘sweet words’ in his estate since 2008. I am unsure what he means. Does he want to hear the sound of violence in Georgia? He claimed he wants to hear this in Georgia; we are dealing with such an individual. There’s no need to point fingers, he admits it himself, and the people see all of this clearly,” Sharmanashvili added.

For reference, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on social media: “The dictator has been killed, Iran is free, and the people are celebrating. God, God, let me hear this sweet sound in my homeland.”
