MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili condemns Moldova's President's disinformation and radical stance on Georgia

“It is disgraceful when a head of state assumes the role of spreading disinformation. Maia Sandu is not doing this for the first time; she is known for her radical stance towards Georgia,” stated MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.

Sharmanashvili commented on Moldova’s President Maia Sandu’s statement that “Russia pulled Georgia back into its orbit by weaponising the fear of war, signalling that the wrong electoral choice would come at the cost of peace.”

“When people were storming the presidential palace, Sandu was wishing success to those committing acts of violence. This biased individual continues to use every platform against Georgia, whilst her own country faces a dire and catastrophic situation. Any ratings that are published, whether in terms of economic growth or levels of corruption, indicate that they are in a state of decline. She takes no real steps there, and is she concerned about Georgia’s development? That is completely inconceivable on her part.

No one disputes any longer that there is no fabricated threat from Russia. We can all clearly see what type of attacks Russia is carrying out in Ukraine, how infrastructure is being bombed, and what losses Ukraine has suffered.

Under such circumstances, portraying a fabricated military adventure with Russia as credible demonstrates a level of objectivity that leaves me at a loss for an appropriate term. If Maia Sandu does not view military confrontation with Russia as such a threat, she can carry it out herself within her own country, using her own army, and we shall see what results ensue. They criticise us for not being adventurers and for not initiating a military and economic venture. We won’t do that, which doesn’t mean returning to Russia’s orbit.

Consider the volume of investments from other countries in Georgia; does anything indicate that Russia is the primary source of investment, and would this have a significant impact on the country’s economic development?

This is being said by the people who, after the August war, gave almost all the energy capital to Russia. We are dealing with the creation of false narratives. Moldova barely managed to make some initial statement about leaving the CIS, and today that country’s leader is talking to me about returning to Russia’s orbit. This is false information spread by a deceitful person,” Sharmanashvili stated.
