MP Samkharadze: We also believe in artistic freedom, but profanity is not creative expression in Georgia and remains unacceptable
“Hurling vulgar insults is not acceptable behaviour in Georgia, stemming as it does from basic courtesy and etiquette. The sooner European diplomats grasp this, the better they will comprehend Georgian culture,” stated MP Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.
Samkharadze reiterated that obscenity does not constitute creative expression in Georgia.
“We also believe in artistic freedom of expression; however, I wish to convey to the EU Delegation—in case they were unaware, have failed to learn, or have not yet internalised it—that in Georgia, directing vulgar obscenities is not creative freedom and is unacceptable to a Georgian man,” Samkharadze stated.
“Hurling vulgar insults is not considered normal in Georgia, as a matter of basic decency and ethics. The sooner European diplomats understand this, the better they will comprehend Georgian culture,” Samkharadze added.
