“Peaceful overthrow is an oxymoron that law doesn’t recognise, overthrow is overthrow, calling for it is a crime,” stated MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s European Integration Committee.

Makhashvili commented on the statements by Levan Khabeishvili and Paata Burchuladze regarding the peaceful overthrow of the government.

“They’re probably trying to charge up a certain part of society, since there’s no spark left, no emotions. Everyone has seen clearly what these opposition forces truly stand for and what their real interests are. As for peaceful overthrow, this is an oxymoron that the law doesn’t recognise. Overthrow is still an overthrow, regardless of the words used to dress it up or colour it differently. Naturally, it is a criminal act. Calling for the overthrow of state power is a serious offence. I urge everyone to avoid embellishing these words or treating them lightly; every word bears significance and can lead to serious consequences. Do not justify yourselves internally or externally by claiming you meant something different or that your words were misunderstood. An attempt to overthrow is a dangerous and alarming crime that threatens society. I call on everyone to refrain from making such statements,” declared Levan Makhashvili.

The leader of the Rustaveli Avenue movement, Paata Burchuladze, stated, “October 4 is declared the day of the peaceful overthrow of Ivanishvili. Get ready, Georgia, to fight to the end.”

Additionally, the Chairman of the United National Movement’s Political Council, Levan Khabeishvili, stated that October 4 is the date of the Georgian people’s victory. He also explained what is meant by peaceful overthrow: “The more of us there are, the more easily and peacefully we will defeat and dismiss this government. A peaceful overthrow refers to events like those in Georgia in 2003, similar developments in our region, such as in Armenia, and the actions taken by Pashinyan. We can do this, and we will do it.”
