MP Makhashvili: IRI survey proves public endorses government’s course and trusts its leadership

“The latest survey by the International Republican Institute (IRI) delivers a devastating blow to the so-called opposition, exposing the severe political miscalculations committed by the bloc,” MP Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, told GPB First Channel.

According to Makhashvili, the survey demonstrates that the opposition’s recent course of action runs directly counter to the public interest.

“The IRI survey shows that the electorate trusts the government and agrees with the course it has set. This is a damning result for the so-called opposition, as it lays bare the gravity of the political blunders made by that flank—particularly over the past few years. What were those blunders? Manufacturing new flashpoints of confrontation against the public’s wishes, stoking artificial tension, and attempting to engineer political crises. The electorate asked for none of this, and the poll confirms that their decisions were entirely at odds with what the public actually wants and needs,” Makhashvili said.

The MP’s comments come as slides purportedly showing results from the latest IRI poll circulated on social media. According to the leaked data, Georgian Dream leads party preferences with 36 per cent, followed by the United National Movement (UNM) on 5 per cent.

Iago Khvichia’s Free People party (formerly Girchi), the Labour Party, Giorgi Gakharia’s For Georgia, and the Ahali party each poll at 2 per cent. Ana Dolidze’s For the People, Zurab Japaridze’s Girchi – More Freedom, Strategy Aghmashenebeli, and the People’s Party stand at 1 per cent each. Neither Lelo nor the Federalists featured in the published breakdown.
