MP Levan Makhashvili: Georgia’s First Lady's visit to U.S. offers vital opportunity for public discourse and diplomacy

According to MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, the visit of Georgia’s First Lady, Tamar Bagrationi, to the United States is of significant importance.

Makhashvili emphasised that this visit presents a valuable opportunity for public discussion and public diplomacy.

“Certainly, the visit of the First Lady of Georgia to America is of great significance. She will participate in a major global conference organised by the First Lady of the United States. The focus is on children, addressing the many challenges related to their safe development amid the modern technological era.

The First Lady of Georgia will have the chance to engage with participants from around the world on these crucial issues. It provides an excellent platform for public dialogue and diplomacy beyond this. She will be able, whether with representatives from the State Department or the White House, to communicate Georgia’s expectations to her international counterparts.

Overall, this visit marks a significant step in revitalising bilateral relations, particularly in public diplomacy.

We welcome the gradual normalisation of relations across all dimensions, alongside political ties. The relationship between the United States and Georgia is a multifaceted process, and we appreciate progress in all areas. The First Lady’s visit supports this broader goal.

We anticipate further advancements in the political sphere throughout the year. This is a bilateral process; our readiness to cooperate has been expressed, and there are positive signals and encouraging messages from America,” Makhashvili stated to GPB First Channel.
