MP Levan Makhashvili: Anti-state statements by Salome Zourabichvili are nothing new; they are her consistent style and strategy

According to MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, the anti-state remarks made by former President Salome Zourabichvili are not a recent phenomenon. For Makhashvili, this behaviour is characteristic of Zourabichvili’s longstanding approach and strategic stance.

Makhashvili commented on Zourabichvili’s recent statement, in which she said, “Some parties drift in and out of parliament, parroting Georgian Dream’s messages and repeating GD’s attacks on other parties. These are traitors, and achieving unity alongside them is exceedingly difficult, but we will achieve it nonetheless.”

“We will sit back with our popcorn and watch as they tear each other apart. Let them try to figure out and form their own opinions, because society is fully aware of what they have done for the country and its people — and what they are doing now, driven by a single goal: to cause a drone explosion at a Georgian school. I cannot defend ‘Gakharia’s people’, but when it comes to respecting the parliament as a fundamental state institution, any individual who makes such remarks, especially a former president, whose primary duty should be to safeguard and uphold state institutions, is making completely unacceptable remarks. We may not defend everyone, but we call on all to respect not only the Georgian parliament but also those who have expressed support for this or that party. For at least this reason, they should make proper, responsible statements. These kinds of anti-state remarks from Salome Zourabichvili are not new; they are her consistent style and long-standing strategy,” said Levan Makhashvili.

Meanwhile, Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, responded to Zourabichvili’s comments today, saying: “Before accusing others of betrayal, they should reflect on their own treacherous actions. History will ultimately judge who the real traitor is.”
