MP Kirtskhalia: EC’s report confirms that no one can escape geography: European bureaucrats’ statements on Georgia are out of touch with reality
“It’s one thing what they write in the commission’s conclusion, and quite another what statements we actually hear. This is where we must draw a clear line between the unelected bureaucracy, their dirty politics, and reality. We understand reality well,” said MP Irakli Kirtskhalia, leader of the parliamentary majority.
According to Kirtskhalia, the European Commission’s report affirms that no one can escape the effect of geography.
“We have seen how those who ignored geography have ended their political careers. When we discuss the Middle Corridor, we must remember that we are walking along it and must exercise caution. Our goal is to preserve peace as much as possible and to maximise the role that our country naturally holds. Our task is to be vigilant about this role. The facts in the report are clear. The statements made by European bureaucrats about Georgia are out of touch with reality. Internally, Georgia’s importance has also been belittled. We remember the attacks on investment. Of course, these agents had an agenda. What they write in the commission’s conclusion is one thing, but what we hear from statements is another. Here, we must draw a firm line between the unelected bureaucracy, their underhanded politics, and reality. We understand reality very well.
Just as Europe needs Georgia, Georgia also needs Europe. This is rooted in our geographical position. Our relations have never fallen below a high standard, and this remains the foundation for the positive statistics and conclusions we see week after week. It is a tragicomedy when Lelo makes a statement regarding the Anaklia port. We saw how the dispute over this vital project was resolved through international arbitration. They are a pair of con artists; those two are elderly swindlers. The name they chose for themselves is quite fitting. We know the entire chronology of what they did to this crucial project for Georgia,” Kirtskhalia added.
For reference, a study published by the European Commission states: “Georgia is an irreplaceable strategic corridor whose modernisation and compatibility with European standards directly affects Europe’s economic security and stability.”
