MP Irakli Kadagishvili: Vicious web woven by likes of Rasa Juknevičienė and Joe Wilson is greatest threat to Georgian democracy

“The vicious web woven against Georgia by the likes of the Rasas and Joe Wilsons of this world stands as the single greatest threat to the advancement of democracy in our country,” the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Regional Policy and Self-Government, MP Irakli Kadagishvili, has declared.

According to Kadagishvili, despite this damaging foreign policy, the nation continues to advance its development while steadfastly safeguarding its democratic principles.

“The resolution adopted by the OSCE is the direct consequence of a manipulative agenda pursued by Joe Wilson and his associates. This happens when certain political factions prioritise enforcing their strategic goals by any means necessary, rather than respecting legitimate democratic processes. When they fail to achieve their aims through standard channels, they resort to exploiting the prestige of various sovereign nations or international institutions to force through damaging, improper, and unlawful resolutions and declarations, all in an attempt to exert leverage over a sovereign state,” Kadagishvili noted.

The committee chair added that Joe Wilson’s character and political motivations have already been fully exposed to the Georgian public.

“The most troubling aspect of this situation is the ongoing devaluation of several foundational international institutions. The chief observer for our 2024 parliamentary elections was the OSCE itself, whose delegation explicitly declared the elections valid and congratulated Georgia on their successful conduct. Yet, because this institution has succumbed to intense pressure from these hostile factions, it can no longer even stand by its own official conclusions. What more is there to say? It is utterly unprecedented to see such an organisation brought to its knees in this manner.

An institution originally built to safeguard security and democracy has, by adopting these types of resolutions, effectively become a liability, having lost even the capacity to defend its own observation missions. Naturally, we could not participate in the adoption of such fundamentally fraudulent documents, and our delegation took the correct stance by walking out.

If anyone has actively sabotaged democracy in Georgia, it is these foreign political factions, and the lion’s share of accountability rests squarely on their shoulders. Because they cannot secure their desired outcomes through democratic elections, they pivot to a strategy of systematic electoral discredit. Their domestic puppets then follow suit by rejecting election results, abandoning the political process, and boycotting parliamentary life entirely. Instead, they choose to weaponise revolution and civil unrest. Naturally, any democratic state would issue a firm legal response to such actions. Yet these compromised politicians and the individuals they mislead continue to be cynically exploited as pawns to undermine Georgia.

The vicious web woven against Georgia by the likes of the Rasas and Joe Wilsons is the greatest enemy to democratic progress in our country. Despite their hostile rhetoric, our nation continues to progress and preserve its democracy,” Irakli Kadagishvili stated.

For context, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly recently adopted a critical resolution concerning Georgia, drafted by US Congressman Joe Wilson. In response, the Georgian delegation refused to participate in the vote and staged a formal walkout. The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, MP Nikoloz Samkharadze, stated that specific sections of the amended text deliberately distort Georgia’s political reality and misrepresent facts.
