MP Archil Gorduladze: In world dominated by interests of powerful forces, our small country must survive

“On the one hand, the Council of Europe is recognising that foreign interference in Georgia is a challenge, and on the other hand, at Sweden’s initiative, we hear from the OSCE that the Moscow Mechanism should be activated,” stated MP Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, speaking to GPB First Channel.

According to him, this situation arises precisely because of the legislative framework designed to prevent foreign interference.

“The Council of Europe has approached us to share our views and positions, which we have done. It is a paradox that, while the Council of Europe acknowledges foreign interference as a challenge, we are simultaneously told by the OSCE, under Swedish initiative, that the Moscow Mechanism must be activated due to the current human rights situation.

This contradiction is rooted in the legislative framework, aimed at safeguarding us from external meddling. What is a challenge for others is equally a challenge for us. If we pass legislation of this kind, it would be a setback for democracy; for others, it might be seen as a step forward. Unfortunately, standards have become blurred. World politics is becoming ever more driven by the pursuit of particular interests. In such a reality, our small country must survive,” emphasised Archil Gorduladze.
