MP Archil Gorduladze: EU should find way out of impasse and review its decisions

“From a pragmatic perspective and in its own strategic interest, the European Union should be motivated to find a way out of the current political impasse and reconsider its decisions,” stated MP Archil Gorduladze, a leading figure in the ruling Georgian Dream party.

Gorduladze emphasised that while Georgia needs the EU, the EU needs Georgia no less.

“This is particularly evident through the Middle Corridor and the economic links in which our country plays a vital role. We are reclaiming the historic role we held for so long, acting as a bridge between different cultures and nations. Naturally, the EU leadership ought to reflect on this,” Gorduladze noted.

“Statements made by members of our team are always responsive. We never initiate such rhetoric, but when subjected to attacks and the dissemination of falsehoods, we will invariably respond,” he added.

“We want to be treated as an equal partner. Georgia is an established, sovereign state, and everyone should respect the Georgian people and their choices,” Gorduladze concluded.

His remarks follow statements by Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, who announced after meeting with the speakers of both houses of the Belgian Parliament that the Georgian government has offered the European Union an opportunity to review its decision to suspend political dialogue.
