MP Aleksandre Tabatadze: Tamaz Borashvili comes from state security; he is a highly qualified officer
“Tamaz Borashvili has emerged from the very core of the State Security Service. He is a highly qualified officer,” declared MP Aleksandre Tabatadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Defence and Security Committee.
Tabatadze highlighted Borashvili’s institutional trajectory following today’s nomination.
“I am pleased that Tamaz Borashvili has emerged from the very core of the State Security Service. He has served in virtually every rank and position. He is a highly qualified officer. I do not believe frequent leadership changes are beneficial for the agency itself; however, when faced with a resignation submitted on personal grounds, we have no alternative but to ensure the service remains equal to its calling and continues to fulfil its core duties,” Tabatadze stated.
For context, Geka Geladze stepped down as Head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) earlier today. At a press briefing at the Government Administration on the same day, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze formally presented Tamaz Borashvili as the candidate for the leadership post.
