Migration Department detains 45 foreign nationals amid intensified immigration controls
As part of the ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, officials from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have conducted targeted immigration enforcement measures nationwide.
According to the Ministry, these comprehensive operations resulted in the detention of 45 foreign nationals, including citizens of Kenya, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Algeria, Thailand, Uganda, India, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Sudan.
“Under the framework of these special immigration control measures, department personnel inspected specific locations and facilities of various types, aiming to identify foreign citizens residing in Georgia without legal grounds. It has been established that those detained are here in violation of the provisions outlined in Georgia’s Law ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’,” the Ministry’s statement reads.
The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre, where expulsion procedures are underway, the Ministry added.
