Migration Department detains 14 foreign nationals during immigration sweep
As part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, officers from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) carried out a targeted immigration enforcement operation, the Ministry has announced.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, based on gathered intelligence, the Migration Department checked specific locations as part of this initiative, which aims to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without proper legal documentation.
“Following this comprehensive operation, 14 foreign nationals were detained. Among them are citizens of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan. It was established that their presence in the country contravenes the provisions outlined in the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’,” the Ministry stated.
The individuals are currently held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Appropriate procedures are underway to facilitate their expulsion from the country.
The Migration Department affirmed that regular immigration control measures will continue to ensure the effective enforcement of Georgia’s legislation regarding the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons.
