Officers from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have carried out targeted immigration control operations nationwide, according to an official statement released by the Ministry.

“As a result of comprehensive operations, 50 foreign nationals residing illegally in the country were detained, including citizens of Nigeria, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, China, Thailand, Russia, India, Iraq, Turkmenistan, and Egypt.

During the targeted immigration control operations, department officers inspected specific locations and various commercial and public facilities to identify foreign nationals staying in Georgia without legal grounds.

The Migration Department established that the detained individuals were residing in the country in violation of the requirements stipulated by the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons’.

The detainees are now held at the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Centre. The relevant legal procedures are underway to deport them from the country,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
