Migration Department arrest 64 foreign nationals in nationwide targeted sweeps
Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs Migration Department have carried out targeted immigration enforcement operations across the country.
The comprehensive sweeps resulted in the detention of 64 foreign nationals residing in Georgia unlawfully, including citizens of Jordan, Pakistan, Turkey, Russia, India, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, China, Thailand, and Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, migration officers targeted specific locations and commercial premises during the operation, aiming to identify foreign citizens residing in the country without legal grounds.
Investigators established that the detainees were living in Georgia in breach of the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.
The detainees are currently held at the Migration Department’s Temporary Detention Centre pending formal deportation proceedings.
Since the introduction of new legislative amendments, Migration Department officers have screened more than 20,000 foreign nationals during targeted enforcement operations nationwide.
