MFA: WTO Secretary-General commends Georgia’s economic progress

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili met with WTO Secretary-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on the sidelines of the UN High-Level Meeting.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Georgia’s membership in the World Trade Organisation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the meeting underscored Georgia’s successful cooperation with the organisation.

“The Secretary-General highly praised Georgia’s impressive economic growth rate and positive forecasts. It was acknowledged that Georgia has managed to sustain stable and resilient economic development despite numerous challenges. The discussion also highlighted Georgia’s prominent role in international trade, which is rooted in the country’s transit capabilities and its expanding role in the development of the Middle Corridor.

The meeting emphasised Georgia’s significant steps toward enhancing international trade opportunities, as well as improving the business and investment environment. Maka Botchorishvili expressed gratitude to the WTO and the Secretary-General for their fruitful cooperation with Georgia and extended an invitation for them to visit,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry stated.
