Agriculture Minister meets with BP Georgia Head

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songhulashvili, met with Aytan Hajiyeva, Director of BP Georgia.

According to the Ministry, the meeting focused on the outcomes of the longstanding collaboration between BP and Georgia, as well as ongoing and upcoming projects. They discussed the development of the country’s energy infrastructure, adherence to environmental standards, and the strengthening of cooperation in these areas.

Minister Songhulashvili highlighted the significance of partnership between the state and the private sector, emphasising that such collaboration is crucial for Georgia’s environmental protection.

“BP’s cooperation with Georgia has been highly effective and results-driven over many years. A close working relationship has been established between the Ministry and the company, ensuring both compliance with environmental standards and the smooth execution of vital projects. It is essential that this partnership continues and is further strengthened,” he stated.

Aytan Hajiyeva, representing BP, noted that the company is celebrating 30 years of operations in Georgia, during which numerous important projects have been carried out in partnership with the government.

“Georgia remains a key strategic partner for us. BP is not withdrawing from the region; on the contrary, we are expanding our activities in Georgia and across the wider region. We continue to be involved in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and South Caucasus pipeline systems and remain committed to managing critical energy infrastructure,” she said.

The discussion also covered environmental and investment initiatives, including forest restoration and natural resource preservation. It was emphasised that BP actively collaborates with agencies within the Ministry’s system, not only in licensing and permitting procedures but also in the implementation of environmental and natural resource conservation projects.

Deputy Ministers of Environment and Agriculture, Giorgi Tskrialashvili, Zurab Ezugbaia, Rusudan Medzmariashvili, and BP’s External Relations Manager attended the meeting.
