Georgia's FM: Support is important, current cooperation is good, but my meeting with the Mayor of San Francisco served to do more
Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, has reflected on her meeting with the Mayor of San Francisco during her visit to the United States, and spoken about the importance of Georgia-U.S. cooperation.
“At the meeting with the Mayor of San Francisco, we discussed cooperation between Georgia and the city, as well as the significant new development we are bringing here; as you know, the Innovation Hub is opening, and it will operate right here in this city. It is particularly important that collaboration between the United States and Georgia ensures full support for our General Consulate and for the Innovation Hub in San Francisco,” said Maka Botchorishvili.
She emphasised the importance of Georgia maintaining a strong and active presence in this major economic and technological hub.
“There are enormous opportunities here for Georgian businesses as well as American ones to raise Georgia’s profile more effectively in this city. Political support and backing are, of course, of great importance to us. The cooperation that exists today is good, but there is always the opportunity to deepen it further, and that is precisely what this meeting was about,” the Minister said.
Botchorishvili also spoke about the broader trajectory of Georgia-U.S. bilateral relations. In her view, the recent visit by the US Deputy Secretary of State clearly reflects the positive momentum building between the two countries.
“The United States was represented at a very high level at the celebrations marking Georgia’s Independence Day. The Deputy Secretary of State’s visit is a demonstration of exactly the kind of attitude we have been seeing from the United States administration towards Georgia in recent times. The strong messages we heard are an encouraging sign that relations between Georgia and the United States will continue to develop, and that we will have new opportunities to bring the relationship between our two countries to the level that both Georgia and the United States of America deserve,” said the Foreign Minister.
