MEP Rasa Juknevičienė urges EU leaders to refrain from any actions that would legitimize GD's self-appointed authorities
“I urge EU leaders, member states, and other international organizations to refrain from any actions in this country that would legitimize the self-appointed Georgian Dream authorities,” said MEP Rasa Juknevičienė in the European Parliament during the debates on Georgia.
According to the MEP, the only way out of this crisis is through new, independent, and fair elections without any delay.
“The brave Georgians have been protesting against their stolen European future for more than 50 days. Despite the brutality and violence of the Georgian Dream authorities, people in the streets refer to them as the ‘Kremlin Dream’ or ‘Russian Dream’ party. As Georgians fight for their European path, it is our duty to be clear in our support. First, the only true and legitimate representative of the Georgian people and the only recognized officeholder is President Salome Zourabichvili. Second, the Georgian Dream and the self-declared one-party parliament are not legitimate authorities.
I urge EU leaders, member states, and other international organizations to refrain from any actions in this country that would legitimize the self-appointed Georgian Dream authorities. The violence against the people, political opposition, and civil society continues to intensify. One of the opposition leaders, Giorgi Gakharia, has been brutally beaten, and independent journalists have been attacked, including Mzia Amaglobeli, who has been imprisoned for two months.
Europe must respond by imposing personal sanctions on those responsible, particularly Bidzina Ivanishvili. The only way out of this crisis is through new, independent, and fair elections without any delay,” she said.
