Media protest in Tbilisi

Media representatives are holding a rally at Republic Square in Tbilisi against violent attacks on the media. They hold photos of injured media representatives and demand a prompt investigation.

“We came to support our colleagues and condemn the extreme cruelty that media face daily, as evidenced by a physical assault on a cameraman and journalist yesterday. Such cases must be duly investigated,” stated journalist Khatuna Gagnidze.

A similar protest was also held in Batumi today.

The masked individuals violently attacked TV Pirveli journalist Maka Chikhladze and cameraman Giorgi Shetsiruli on Saturday. The footage shows Maka Chikhladze being attacked from behind and thrown onto the ground as she is trying to protect the cameraman. Giorgi Shetsiruli lying on the ground was also brutally beaten. The probe has been launched under the second part of Article 154.
