Georgia’s Ministry of Justice has announced plans to build a marriage house with a unique architectural design in the municipality of Mestia.

According to the ministry, the project was officially launched with the symbolic placement of a time capsule by Justice Minister Paata Salia, together with the State Representative of Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti, officials from the Ministry of Justice, and local government representatives.

The ministry said the architectural concept was created by a Georgian architect and is designed to blend seamlessly with Svaneti’s distinctive landscape and traditional architectural style. The project has already received international recognition, winning two prestigious architecture and design awards.

The concept was awarded in the Best Sacred Architecture Inspired by a Country’s Historical Motifs category at the Japan International Design Award in Tokyo, and also received top honors in the Conceptual Design category at the Rome Design Award in Rome.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the new marriage house will contribute to the development of public services in the regions while strengthening Mestia’s position as an international tourist destination. Both Georgian citizens and foreign nationals will be able to register their marriages there, a move the ministry says will further enhance the region’s tourism potential.

The project is also intended to support Georgia’s regional development policy by creating modern public infrastructure that provides accessible, high-quality, and convenient services for citizens.

The marriage house will be built on Revaz Margiani Street in Mestia. The ministry added that the new building will also house the Revaz Margiani House Museum, giving the project additional cultural significance.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Deputy Justice Minister Lana Morgoshia, Chairman of the Public Service Hall Vakhtang Zhvania, and representatives of the local authorities.
