Mamuka Bakhtadze met Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of US
Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia met Dr. Robert R. Redfield, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States of America (USA) today.
Discussions were related to the bilateral cooperation of USA and Georgia towards the development of healthcare system, public health, bio-medicine and life sciences.
Prospects of extended cooperation between US CDC and National Centre for Disease Control of Georgia (NCDC) were also discussed.
Topics related to the security of healthcare were reviewed, including within a wholesome public healthcare system. Significance of its concept was underlined for the avoidance of threats in the system of healthcare.
Dr. Redfield, Director CDC arrived in Tbilisi with a delegation for an Official Visit. Visit is aimed at getting exposure to Georgia and achievements made within the scope of cooperation between the CDC and NCDC.
CDC has a declared mission to ensure an early identification of epidemic outbreaks and extension of response measures at the institutional level on the grounds of a close cooperation with the Ministry of Refugees, Labor, Health and Social Security of Georgia (MRLHSS) and NCDC. CDC provides Technical Assistance (TA) on various risk factors in the system of healthcare inter alia through the implementation of surveillance studies and capacity building. Operation of the CDC in Georgia covers the following areas: hepatitis, flu, respiratory diseases, tuberculosis, nutrition, etc.
