Lelo-Strong Georgia launches legal fight to restore voting rights for migrants
The Lelo-Strong Georgia launches a legal fight to restore voting rights for migrants,” a member of the coalition, Giorgi Sioridze, announced during the briefing.
According to Sioridze, the coalition filed a lawsuit in the Constitutional Court.
“The 2024 parliamentary elections demonstrated that at polling stations opened abroad, where the regime had no opportunity for election manipulations and use of administrative resources, intimidation and pressure on voters, the Georgian Dream was represented with 13% of the votes. It failed and lost. In response, the GD deprived our emigrants and fellow citizens of voting rights. Polling stations will not be opened abroad for the next elections,” he said.
Giorgi Siordize went on to say that the GD’s explanation was cynical, alleging Georgian citizens had to arrive in Georgia on Election Day to vote.
He said that the Lelo-Strong Georgia coalition had worked for months on a constitutional lawsuit, which would be published, and each migrant would have the opportunity to become a participant in this demand.
“Qualified lawyers from our coalition will provide them with legal representation in the Constitutional Court, he concluded.
