“Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream government bear full responsibility for my and my family’s security,” wrote jailed ex-prime minister Irakli Gharibashvili in his social network statement. He said that he had “received a letter at the instruction of Bidzina Ivanishvili.”

“This letter was sent at the instruction of Bidzina Ivanishvili. I tried my best not to take this step, but regrettably, I was left with no choice but to stand up against this evil that degrades human dignity! Against this ruthless cruelty, this oppression and injustice, and the vile plot to destroy me and my family! Tomorrow, I will release a detailed statement and tell the public my truth! From today, Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream government bear full responsibility for my and my family’s security,” Irakli Gharibashvili said.

Also, Gharibashvili published a photo of the letter.

“The ‘supporters’ such as Dito Chubinidze and Irma Inashvili, as well as campaigns organized in social networks, generated serious suspicions and greatly harmed us. Intensive work is ongoing over several schemes with presumably consequences of corruption charges. Therefore, there are two versions to act:

1. To continue the legal fight and push it to the end;

2. (The second version was proposed by them as a compromise), to admit one of the cases where everything will be agreed upon, including confession and pointing the finger by witnesses and so on. In this instance, they are proposing a plea agreement with the same five-year term, meaning, as it was explained to me, that the sentences would merge, and the five-year term would remain. After my release, I should stay away from politics, and if I choose to betray, then the corruption charge, which is admitted, will serve as an insurance mechanism that I must not think of returning to politics,” Gharibashvili said in the letter.
