James Appathurai – There is more NATO in Georgia, but we want much more
“Today there is more NATO in Georgia, but we want much more, and also, more Georgia in NATO,” said James Appathurai, Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Appathurai arrived in Georgia with an official visit earlier today. He said that he had 3 main reasons to travel to Georgia. According to Appathurai, he was always pleased to visit Georgia, but the current visit was related to work objectives such as meeting with the authorities and representatives of non-governmental organizations. The third reason was to discuss the work started in 2018 and set the plans for 2019 together with the Georgian governmental officials.
Appathurai will meet with Salome Zurabishvili, President-elect, Davit Zalkaliani, Foreign Minister and Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister. He is also scheduled to hold the meeting with Grigol Vashadze, presidential candidate of National Movement Party and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
