Iranian citizen detained on heroin import charge

Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), General Prosecutor’s Office, and Finance Ministry detained an Iranian citizen, born in 1961, following a joint investigation, on a charge of importing 80 kilograms of heroin in Georgia.

The charged individual smuggled drugs from Armenia in a truck. The smuggling was revealed following the container check at the Poti port.

Iranian citizen faces 20 years in prison or a life sentence if convicted.
