The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA) has launched a formal criminal investigation into a suspected drink poisoning incident during a campus event at Caucasus University.

The Interior Ministry confirmed to First Channel that proceedings have been initiated under Article 124 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the negligent infliction of moderate or severe bodily harm.

The inquiry follows widespread reports that several undergraduates were rushed to medical facilities after falling ill from contaminated or spiked beverages consumed during a university welcome party.

Detectives are currently working to establish the circumstances surrounding the event and identify the precise substances involved.
