Interior Ministry hosts consultative group meeting on disability rights

Members of the Consultative Group on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities met with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to review ongoing human rights initiatives and map future strategic priorities across the law enforcement sector.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze opened the session; Rati Ionatamishvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration, delivered remarks.

According to the Interior Ministry, participants reviewed actions undertaken in recent years to safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities within the Interior Ministry’s system. The meeting highlighted the importance of active community involvement, ensuring disabled people’s needs shape both the drafting and delivery of future initiatives.

To guarantee equal and effective access to law enforcement services, participants emphasised the need for ongoing dialogue and outcome-driven collaboration with disabled individuals and advocacy groups.

Heads of structural units within the Ministry and members of the advisory group representing the disability community attended the meeting.
