Interior Ministry arrests seven, including foreign nationals, on drug charges
Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Patrol Police, alongside the Tbilisi, Kakheti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, and Shida Kartli regional police departments, have arrested seven individuals in a series of operations. The suspects face charges including the illegal purchase, possession, and facilitation of the sale of drugs and psychotropic substances in exceptionally large quantities, as well as the illegal cultivation of cannabis plants.
According to the Ministry, the detainees include both Georgian and foreign nationals.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs released the following details regarding the operations:
“Following searches of the suspects’ persons, residences, and private land, law enforcement officers seized exceptionally large quantities of controlled drugs and psychotropic substances as evidence. Among the seized items were Methadone, Buprenorphine, 201 cannabis plants, 143 pre-packaged doses of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), dried marijuana, Baclofen, and Gabapentin.
Police also recovered equipment and materials used for the packaging and distribution of illicit substances.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 265 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.”
