Ian Kelly: US supports Ombudsman’s Office

“The US supports Ombudsman’s Office since it presents an important part of democracy,” Ian Kelly, US Ambassador to Georgia said.

According to Kelly, US hopes that whoever replaces Ucha Nanuashvili, Georgian Public Defender, on post, she/she will stay independent.

Nanuashvili recently published a report about the so-called Cyanide Case. The report was followed by critical remarks.

Tea Tsulukiani, Justice Minister said that Nanuashvili was the ‘first unfair Ombudsman in Georgia’s history.’

On November 17, non-governmental organizations released a statement in support of Public Defender.
