Hunnewell Partners released a statement announcing its quitting of Imedi TV. According to Hunnewell Partners Head Irakli Rukhadze, he has made the decision to quit Imedi TV through long and tense consultations with partners.
Irakli Rukhadze said that it was clear from the beginning that separating Imedi from politics would be difficult. Accordingly, in 2018, when acquiring Imedi, two goals were identified: not to admit the return of the National Movement into power and that owners had to manage Imedi with the least interference in editorial policy.
“We can say that for the last 7-8 years, we have fulfilled our goals more or less. Today, the National Movement and its satellite parties are ruined. Imedi has played a key role in this process. The threat of Georgia’s involvement in the war is reduced. Within the country, through great efforts, the Georgian government, with the support of the Georgian public, managed to prevent Georgia’s becoming a party to this war. Outside the country, Trump’s U.S. declares that he actively works to end the war in Ukraine. Therefore, the threat or disorder is reduced to a minimum. This, as I have said publicly many times and mentioned above, was the main reason why we agreed to own the television station,” wrote Irakli Rukhadze.
Rukhade further stated that it was not easy to find a new owner for Imedi TV, the owner who, on the one hand, would assume responsibility for financing Imedi in cases of budget deficits and would also agree to retain an active role in managing editorial policy.
“Finally, the choice was made on Prime Media Global company, which has cooperating with Imedi on selling advertisements for many years. This company will by 50% of Imedi shares. The rest of 50% of shares will be owned by Maka Lomidze, Imedi TV’s General Director and her 4 deputies,” Rukhadze said in his statement.
