Head of the WHO Country Office -- At this stage, World Health Organization does not recommend suspension of trade and travel
At this stage, the World Health Organization does not recommend the suspension of trade and travel amid a global outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
Head of the WHO Georgia Office Silviu Domente said while responding to the question whether the World Health Organization recommends Georgia to restrict flights to Italy.
Silviu Domente explained that countries can take extra measures, but in this case, they should inform the World Health Organization and justify the need for these measures.
“As for the banning of flights and imposing any restrictions, at this stage, the World Health Organization does not recommend restrictions on trade and travel, though this does not prevent countries from taking additional measures.
Countries have an obligation to inform WHO of the measures taken and to justify them. WHO expects that if Georgia takes any measures, it will provide the World Health Organization with substantiated information about it,” said Silviu Domente.
