Government announces establishment of Georgian Academy of Diplomacy to strengthen national foreign policy
“By government decision, a new higher education institution, the Georgian Academy of Diplomacy, is being established. We aim to train highly qualified personnel for our diplomatic service, which is vital for further strengthening our country’s foreign policy position,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a government session.
According to him, the Georgian Academy of Diplomacy will train highly qualified personnel for the diplomatic service, with its departmental affiliation ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching and research.
“First and foremost, I would like to emphasise that, unfortunately, the relevant faculties within both state and private universities are, at present, largely unable to provide the essential knowledge and skills required for future diplomats. The Georgian Academy of Diplomacy will specialise in training highly qualified personnel for the diplomatic service. Its departmental subordination will enable the Academy to ensure high standards of teaching and research.
As you are aware, several higher education institutions operate successfully with such departmental subordination; for example, the Georgian Defence Academy, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and, more recently, the Security Academy. Building on this successful practice, we believe that the Georgian Academy of Diplomacy, with its departmental structure, will similarly fulfil its vital function effectively.
I express my gratitude to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, and the Ministry as a whole, for their work in developing a comprehensive and sophisticated concept. Starting from September next year, subject to obtaining the necessary authorisations, the Academy of Diplomacy will be able to commence operations.
Our primary objective remains to prepare highly qualified personnel for our diplomatic service, which is crucial for further strengthening the country’s foreign policy positions, as I have often emphasised,” Kobakhidze concluded.
