The Prosecutorial Council has announced that Council member Shota Tkeshelashvili has nominated Giorgi Gvarakidze, First Deputy Prosecutor General, as a candidate for Prosecutor General of Georgia.
According to the official statement, an interview with Gvarakidze will take place during the Council’s session on June 18, followed by a vote among Council members.
The process of submitting a candidate to Parliament began on June 13. As per recent amendments to the Organic Law of Georgia “On the Prosecutor’s Office,” each Council member is authorized to nominate one candidate. A nominee will be considered supported if they receive a majority vote from the full composition of the Council.
The candidate approved by the Prosecutorial Council will be submitted to the Parliament of Georgia with the necessary justification.
