Giorgi Gakharia: We should calm down, throwing stones is not the way out

Throwing stones is not the way out, – Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia made this statement after the meeting with the locals in Pankisi Gorge.

After the meeting, Gakharia said that it is necessary to calm down now and the right and wrong will be found out later.

“As for the Hydro Power Plant, the builders will continue negotiations with you over this issue and the decision will be based on the agreement with the population. But you must know one thing: throwing stones is not the way out. We must calm down now and do what is suitable for our brotherhood, relationship, and history.

The HPP will be built when 90 percent of the population support it”, – Gakharia said.

Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maia Tskitishvili and Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili held a meeting with the protesters behind closed doors in Pankisi Gorge.

Clashes took place in the Gorge today. Protesters threw stones and sticks at the special force units. The law enforcers used tear gas and rubber bullets. Locals of Pankisi Gorge protested the construction of the Hydro Power Plant Khadori 3 in the Gorge.
