Geostat: Georgia's milk production decreases, but meat production increases in 2022

The Georgian National Statistics Service (GeoStat) reported that the number of cattle reached 868.7 thousand heads at the end of 2022, a 6.5% decrease from 2021. The total number of dairy cows and buffaloes among them made 444.0 thousand heads, a 1.7% decrease year on year.

The number of pigs was 139.9 thousand heads, which was 8.5% less than the previous year. The number of poultry reached 9.7 million heads, a 4.3% increase YoY.

According to GeoStat, milk production totalled 97.5 million litres in the fourth quarter of 2022, a 5.1% decline from the same period the previous year. The amount of milk produced annually in 2022 was 574.7 million litres, a 2.2% YoY decline.

The production of meat, which totalled 23.9 thousand tons in the fourth quarter of 2022, was 3.6% lower than it had been in the same period of 2021. The yearly meat production in 2022 was 2.9% higher than in 2021, totalling 74.7 thousand tons.

In the 4th quarter of 2022, egg production amounted to 156.2 million pieces, making 4.5% less than in the same period of the previous year. The yearly egg production in 2022 declined by 0.9% compared to 2021, totalling 648.9 million pieces.
