Georgia's PM considers Britain as birthplace of justice; surprised by disrespect toward legal principles

“Great Britain, and England in particular, is a country where the idea of a just state was born. Therefore, we are especially surprised by the scale of injustice exhibited by them, as well as by the disrespect shown toward the principles of a legal state,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told Georgian journalists in Budapest.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Georgian government remains open and willing to engage in consultations. He expressed hope that the attitudes of Britain and other European countries toward Georgia and its people would change for the better.

“Great Britain, especially England, is a country where the concept of a just state was born and where the meaning of justice was shaped differently. Therefore, it is particularly surprising to us to witness such injustice and disrespect for the principles of the rule of law from Britain. We seek a fair and constructive approach. When specific questions are raised by the same Speaker of Parliament, which are based on facts, we expect clear, fact-based responses.

Unfortunately, we rarely hear answers grounded in facts. Instead, what we often encounter are blackmail, threats, support for extremism, and blatant interference in our elections—these are very disheartening. We remain open to dialogue and consultations, and we hope that Britain’s, as well as other European countries’ attitudes toward Georgia and its people will evolve positively,” the Prime Minister stated.
