Georgia’s PM claims ‘foreign agents’ seek to derail reconciliation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia
“Our government, our country, has a declared policy: our goal is to rebuild trust between Georgians and Abkhazians, and between Georgians and Ossetians,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to journalists in the United States.
According to the Head of Government, the declared, non-negotiable goal of the authorities stands in direct contrast to the statements being made by specific individuals.
“It is already blatantly clear that this is part of a deliberate campaign. These steps are manifestly aimed against the restoration of trust. Our government and our country have an explicit policy; we aim to rebuild trust between Georgians and Abkhazians, and between Georgians and Ossetians.
There are serious challenges and problems. Both regions have been scarred by past conflicts, leaving behind complex political legacies. Our stated policy is to rebuild that trust. Restoring trust is one of the most vital elements of our peace policy. This is precisely how we envision the restoration of our territorial integrity.
The statements made by specific individuals oppose the government’s non-negotiable, declared objective. These people are simply foreign agents. Consequently, these statements are the direct result of orders issued by specific forces.
Naturally, we must oppose such agendas. We must do everything in our power to restore trust and achieve the restoration of our territorial integrity through peaceful means,” the Prime Minister stated.
