Georgia's new passport and identity card win top international award for security, design and innovation

Georgia’s new biometric passport and electronic identity card have triumphed at an international competition, recognised as identification documents of the highest contemporary standards, combining exceptional security with distinctive and refined design.

According to the Public Service Development Agency, the new biometric passport and electronic identity card, the issuance of which was launched in 2025 by the Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice, were entered into the “Best Document Series” category of the competition held as part of the regional forum on secure document technologies, High Security Printing EMEA 2026.

The award was presented at the ceremony to Rusudan Kokhodze, Chair of the Public Service Development Agency of Georgia’s Ministry of Justice.

The annual regional forum on secure document technologies was held in Rabat, the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco, and organised by the British company Reconnaissance International. It brought together more than 300 delegates from nearly 50 countries.

Representatives of the Public Service Development Agency, Tamta Petviashvili, Deputy Director of the Civil Registry Department, and Natalia Gegelashvili, Project Manager for the new-generation identification documents, presented a paper at the forum and introduced participants to the design and features of Georgia’s new documents.

The next-generation identification documents, Georgia’s biometric passport and electronic identity card, incorporate significantly enhanced security through state-of-the-art protective features, whilst their design draws richly on national themes and imagery.
