Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Government Administration reported.
At the meeting, focus was made on Georgia’s accession to and partnership with the EU. The High Representative’s visit was praised as yet another demonstration of support and partnership.
The parties discussed Georgia’s further progress toward EU membership and steps taken toward receiving the candidate status. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the 12 recommendations defined by the European Council for Georgia. The efforts invested by Georgia’s authorities toward ensuring the inclusive and transparent implementation of the recommendations was highlighted, as a result of which the implementation of the recommendations is nearing finalization.
The Prime Minister of Georgia underlined the Georgian Government’s strong will to bolster the process of the country’s development and reforms.
At the bilateral meeting with the Head of Government, Josep Borrell reaffirmed the EU’s strong commitment to supporting Georgia’s progress on the path to EU membership.
The conversation also touched on the cooperation between Georgia and the EU across a variety of areas. Global projects with Georgia’s engagement were commended, which once again underscores Georgia’s strategic importance to the EU.
Attention was paid to the international security environment, the challenges facing the region, and the EU’s importance in fostering international peace and stability. The Prime Minister thanked the High Representative for the work of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia.
