Georgian PM: Economy achieved 9.1% growth, driving higher wages, reducing poverty, and expanding budget

“In March, the Georgian economy grew by 10.7%,” announced Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a government session.

As the Prime Minister emphasised, this economic growth will be directly reflected in rising average salaries, declining poverty levels, an expanding national budget, and the broadening of key programmes.

“We are experiencing double-digit economic growth. According to first-quarter data, the economy has grown by an average of 9.1%, all despite the regional crisis currently unfolding. We are confronting a new and particularly severe crisis in the Middle East, which has also affected our country, especially in the tourism industry. Yet, despite these hardships and associated challenges, we have succeeded in maintaining a high growth rate.

One of the key reasons, and I would like to highlight this, is that last year we initiated a successful crackdown on corruption, which has directly contributed to positive economic trends. Last year, our growth stood at 7.5%, and this year, based on the first quarter figures, we have already seen an improvement, resulting in tangible benefits across various sectors.

Economic growth will clearly be reflected in higher average wages, poverty alleviation, increased revenues for the state budget, and the expansion of relevant programmes. Our primary goal remains to sustain a high rate of economic growth, and the government is committed to exerting every effort to achieve this in the future,” the Prime Minister stated.
