Georgian PM and Turkmen President open joint business forum
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, alongside the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, has officially opened the Georgia–Turkmenistan Business Forum.
Addressing the forum, the Head of Government highlighted Georgia’s strong economic growth indicators, the ongoing development of the country’s transport and logistics infrastructure, and Georgia’s pivotal role in the Middle Corridor.
“Georgia continues to strengthen its transport and logistics infrastructure to ensure the Middle Corridor becomes faster, more efficient, and highly competitive,” Prime Minister Kobakhidze stated.
“Key to this process are the modernisation of the Georgian Railway, the development of the East-West Highway, and the construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. I must emphasise that, by government decision, the Anaklia Deep Sea Port will be built under the landlord port model. This framework, whereby the state retains ownership of the port land and core infrastructure, will enable the country to develop the port in partnership with multiple nations and companies simultaneously, creating optimal conditions for attracting cargo traffic,” he added.
The Prime Minister further noted that the Government of Georgia warmly welcomes Turkmenistan’s interest in expanding its logistics and warehousing capabilities adjacent to Georgia’s Black Sea ports, expressing full readiness to facilitate such large-scale initiatives.
For his part, the President of Turkmenistan spoke of the growing momentum in bilateral cooperation. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted that Turkmenistan is particularly keen to learn from Georgia’s successful track record across various sectors.
“Today, we are discussing the establishment of a Turkmen terminal on Georgia’s Black Sea coast to bring our countries even closer and to foster successful partnerships between our public and private sectors. The business community plays a vital role in this by driving foreign direct investment, which will ultimately benefit both nations. Our government’s long-term strategic partnership is built upon this very foundation. I am confident that business collaboration will also expand into the field of emerging technologies. Furthermore, I am certain that partnership between Turkmen and Georgian entrepreneurs will prove mutually beneficial. This will manifest in concrete projects, plans, and initiatives aimed at developing our countries’ construction, agricultural, and other key sectors.
Turkmenistan is highly interested in drawing upon Georgia’s development experience. Specifically, we are interested in establishing major tourist hubs in our country based on the Georgian model. In 2025, you achieved outstanding figures in tourism, and we hope to replicate that success,” President Berdimuhamedov said.
The Georgia–Turkmenistan Business Forum has brought together approximately 250 companies. Following the opening ceremony, the Georgian Prime Minister and the Turkmen President toured an exhibition showcasing Turkmen products.
