Georgian Foreign Ministry echoes Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement
Georgian Foreign Ministry echoed the December 10 statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Russian Foreign Ministry urged for annulling the 2008 NATO Bucharest Summit decision which says that Georgia and Ukraine will become NATO members.
Georgian Foreign Ministry said that NATO leaders reached the decision based on political consensus in line with international law fundamental principle that any country has a sovereign right to choose its foreign political course.
The Ministry said that Georgia’s integration into NATO is based on the unwavering will of the Georgian people and is reflected in the Georgian Constitution.
Georgian Foreign Ministry deems as unacceptable by a third party to interfere in determination of foreign priorities of a sovereign country.
“Any statement made by a third party regarding the revision of the Bucharest Summit decision, which is contrary to the fundamental principles and norms of international law, is unacceptable to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” reads the statement.
Foreign Ministry claims that Russia’s moves challenge the European and Euro-Atlantic security architecture that is represented by occupation and annexation of neighbor countries’ territories and Russia’s un-fulfillment of the internationally taken commitments.
