Georgian FM: PM Garibashvili's Armenian trip to be useful due to new geopolitical situation
“The visit of Prime Minister to Armenia is much useful due to the new geopolitical situation,” said Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani commenting on the visit of Irakli Garibashvili to Armenia.
According to him, the visit is significant in terms of deepening bilateral relations. The main topic of discussion is a security issue, FM concluded.
“It is a crucial visit due to the new geopolitical situation. It is useful to harmonise the positions on the current situation and discuss the further deepening of bilateral relations. Naturally, the security situation is one of the main issues. We are interested in establishing lasting peace in the region resolving all existing problems through dialogue and negotiations. We voiced our initiatives during the visit to Azerbaijan and the visit to Yerevan. Georgia is ready to offer Tbilisi to our partners in the South Caucasus as a platform for dialogue.
We do not have the illusion that Georgia could mediate on significant political issues, though we can address concerns related to economic cooperation, small and medium business partnerships, people-to-people relations, and humanitarian issues.
We are ready for a dialogue between the three countries of the South Caucasus. I am sure tangible results can be achieved if there is a political will,” Zalkaliani said.
