Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani has a telephone conversation with the representatives Eliot L. Engel Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Michael McCaul, the Committee’s Ranking Member.

Davit Zalkaliani thanked the United States for its support for Georgia’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic integration.

“I briefed the congressmen on the dire humanitarian and security situation in the occupied regions of Georgia as well as the occupied regime’s illegal actions.

At the same time, I stressed the importance of maintaining Georgia’s security challenges on the agenda of the Congress, along with the international forums.

I also introduced to the congressmen the fundamental changes in the Constitution, which will ensure proportional representation in Georgian Parliament and the transition to a fully proportional electoral system from 2024.

I reaffirmed the Georgian government’s readiness to hold another free and fair election in accordance with international standards and the requirements of the OSCE/ODIHR,” said Zalkaliani.
