Georgian FM holds telephone conversation with his Lithuanian counterpart
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Zalkaliani, held a telephone conversation with his Lithuanian counterpart, Gabrielius Landsberg. The Ministers exchanged information on the current situation related to the Covid pandemic in Georgia and Lithuania, Georgian MFA informed.
The parties stressed the importance of coordination and mutual support in the fight against the pandemic between the states.
“David Zalkaliani thanked his Lithuanian counterpart for initiating a letter from the foreign ministers of 13 EU countries urging the EU to work out a simplified mechanism to enable the Eastern Partnership member states, including Georgia, to receive the coronavirus vaccine in the spring. During the telephone conversation, the sides also stressed the friendly relations between Georgia and Lithuania. The focus was on Lithuania’s significant support for Georgia in the European and Euro-Atlantic integration process.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister, on his part, noted that the Lithuanian State Language Commission decided that “Sakartvelas” would be the only official name of Georgia in the Lithuanian language. (In May 2018, the Lithuanian State Language Commission allowed “Sakartvelas” as an alternative to the country’s former official name “Gruzija”.)
David Zalkaliani also met with the Lithuanian Ambassador Andrius Kalindra at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 11.
