Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister attends high-level US State Department event on Trans-Caspian trade route

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Lasha Darsalia has participated in a high-level event initiated by the United States Department of State, titled “Prosperity Through Peace: Investing in the Trans-Caspian Trade Route and the TRIPP Initiative”, held in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Darsalia addressed the event to highlight the strategic importance of developing the Trans-Caspian Trade Route and emphasised Georgia’s pivotal role in bolstering transport and logistical connectivity between Europe and Asia.

In this context, the Deputy Minister noted that Georgia welcomes the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan as a crucial step towards ensuring sustainable peace and regional stability in the South Caucasus. He stressed that regional peace and enhanced connectivity generate fresh opportunities for economic development and cooperation.

Darsalia also highlighted the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor and the TRIPP initiative, noting that their development would strengthen regional ties, expand trade and transit capacity, and attract new investment.

In his address, the Deputy Minister pointed to Georgia’s major infrastructure projects to advance the Middle Corridor. He underscored the strategic importance of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, which is set to strengthen Georgia’s maritime connectivity and expand the Middle Corridor’s overall capacity.

Darsalia reaffirmed that Georgia remains fully committed to collaborating with the United States, as well as regional and international partners, to bolster connectivity and unlock new economic opportunities.

The panel discussion also featured the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov; Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan; US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Brendan Hanrahan; Special Envoy for Peace Missions, Steve Witkoff, alongside representatives from Central Asian nations. Senior Advisor Aryeh Lightstone moderated the session.
